Pipes, wood, wind—there’s always an explanation. So he ignored it. Night after night, it came back. Same time. Same sound. Not loud, not aggressive… just enough to keep him awake. Still, he didn’t check. He didn’t want to overthink it. But one night, it didn’t stop. It kept going. Louder this time. More frequent. That’s when it got harder to ignore. He got out of bed, heart beating faster than it should, and followed the sound. Step by step, through the quiet house. It was coming from one place. The wall near the hallway. He stood there for a moment, just listening. Then he leaned closer. The sound was clearer now. Not random. Not the house settling. Something was behind the wall. Moving. Scratching. Trying to get through. He stepped back, realizing something that made his stomach drop… whatever it was, it wasn’t outside trying to get in… it was already inside.
