At first, it didn’t seem serious. Just a small charge—something easy to miss. He thought maybe he forgot about it. It happens. But then another one showed up the next day. Same amount. Same description. Now it didn’t feel random anymore. He checked his statements more carefully and noticed a pattern. These charges had been happening for weeks. Always small. Always spaced out just enough to not raise attention. His heart started racing. This wasn’t a mistake. Someone was using his account. He called the bank immediately and started going through everything. That’s when it got worse. The transactions weren’t coming from some unknown location—they were local. Very local. Then the bank asked a question that made him pause. “Has anyone else had access to your card or details?” He thought about it. Friends? No. Work? No. Then it hit him. Someone who had been around him often. Someone he trusted enough to not question. When he finally confronted them, they didn’t deny it. That was the worst part. They just said, “I didn’t think you’d notice.” And in that moment, he realized it wasn’t just about the money… it was about how easily trust can be broken when you least expect it.
